With an increasing ‘gig’ economy and a large number of independent contractors and consultants, outsourcing can be a cost-effective and efficient way to complete key tasks. Through services like Fiverr and the ease of connecting with businesses and consultants overseas, there are greater chances you can secure the resources you need to complete key projects simply and efficiently.
However, it’s not always smooth sailing. Sometimes projects don’t stick to the original plan where timelines and deadlines are missed by those you are outsourcing to.
Here are a few tips to ensure that you can gain the benefits from outsourcing while minimising costs:
Trial and error:
If you are looking to undertake a consultant or freelancer, consider commissioning a small project first to check the standard of work and adherence to deadlines.
Keep an eye out through professional networks for recommendations of designers, developers or consultants where others have worked with them that produced positive results.
Face-to-face vs remote:
A local may be easier to connect with during business hours or have them visit your office to discuss a project. This is harder if a consultant is based overseas where scheduling conflicts could occur.
Consider your own working hours:
If you are trying to manage a project with a team based overseas with multiple time zones, is a 9 to 5 role still viable? Or might you need to adjust your working hours to communicate with them on a regular basis?
